Alan Inman Writes

Almost Extinct

I sit in my tree
Scratching, alone

Knowing there are
not many more of my kind
roaming this earth

Letting out my hollow
call to see if I can sustain
an answer.

Mistake

My lovely lady
of glass and slipper

this is no misplaced
fairy tale
or a mistake remembered
in the morning

after a late night

This is as it is intended.

Pretend

Let's play pretend
like I've always been
a nice guy

Let's play pretend
like this is a crib
and we are all just
learning

Let's play pretend
that you are in charge
or that I always have
been

Just pretending.

Alan Inman
